How Does the Rift Runecrafting Skill Work?
Before you decided whether or not the runecrafting skill is for you, you should know how it works. Basically a runecrafter uses a skill called runebrake to brake down magical items into dust, shards, and crystals. These materials can then be used by the runecrafter to make runes and runeshards. These items can be kept to augment the runcecrafter’s equipment or placed in the auction house for sale.
Can I Make Lots of Money From Runecrafting?
As a new character you may be looking for rift professions which can make you money. Runecrafting is a great way to make money because everyone in the game uses runes and runeshards. It has also become popular to sell your extra dust, crystals, and shards in the auction house. Many high level characters did not take the time to level up a profession. They will pay big money for these low level runecrafting components. You will make more money by selling runecrafting materials in the auction house than you will selling the magical items it takes to make them.

How to get Runecrafting Materials?
Once you have learned the runecrafting skill from one of the trainers listed above on the rift runecrafting guide you will also learn the skill: Runebrake. This skill can be activated and used one magical equipment to brake it down for runecrafting materials.
At adventure level 17 you can join parties. A great way to get lots of stuff to use your runebrake skill on is by joining a dungeon party. Often times dungeons have a higher drop rate of magical items.
If you still can’t find enough materials to keep your skill going you can always try the auction house. Pay close attention to the cost of materials v.s. the cost of magical items. Sometimes you can grab a good deal on a magical item and pay much less for it than you would have the runecrafting materials it makes.
What is the Best way to Level Runecrafting?
Try sticking to this leveling path. It uses the least amount of runecrafting mats and gets you the most amount of runecrafting skill. Be sure to keep an eye on your skill so you know when to change recipes to maximize your experience gain.
